Goodwood Circuit is an historic venue for both two- and four-wheeled motorsport in the United Kingdom. The 2.4 mile circuit is situated near Chichester, West Sussex, close to the south coast of England, on the estate of Goodwood House, and completely encircles Chichester/Goodwood Airport.
The racing circuit began life as the perimeter track of RAF Westhampnett airfield, which was constructed during World War II as a relief airfield for RAF Tangmere, becoming famous for its nine-hour endurance races and Tourist Trophy. Races were staged from 1948 until the final club event in 1966 due to the owners decision not to install chicanes to reduce speeds.
An existing version of Goodwood for rFactor has already been created by motorfx. While this is a very good track, it can be improved on in accuracy, and updated for use with rFactor 2. The author intends to take advantage of his proximity to the circuit in order to achieve a high standard of realism and detail, comparable to that of ISI's historic rendition of Spa-Francorchamps. This will be realised through photorealistic textures, as well as real world data.
Three versions are planned; A trackday-style version as the base, a version replicating the Goodwood Revival, and a version without the pit straight chicane.
Due to the ongoing development of rFactor 2, and the height of the desired track quality, the release date is hesitantly placed in late-2012, with no promises made about meeting this date.
