1.070 to 1.1xx - In any other piece of software it would be a minor patch you might not even install or ever hear about, let alone anticipate its release. In the land of rFactor milk and honey it's another story altogether. Thanks to Gjon, ISI and Scott_J for their assistance with this update preview which spanned 1.132 - 1.140RC2.
Please note the rFactor update is still a WIP, and this preview does not necessarily represent the final update.
Review Updates
I'll be posting any updates to the initial review here.
30nd July: Tracks
I haven't noticed any significant problems with existing tracks in the update, apart from a texture missing here and there. Keep in mind there are many tracks I haven't had time to load but I do have most of the more popular or at least highly rated tracks installed.
26nd July: More on Controller change
I've really been enjoying racing with larger fields and on tracks I hadn't been able to previously due to low FPS at the Display settings I prefer to run. Anyone with a low-mid range PC knows what I mean - those race starts or heavy areas of the track where FPS drop so low everything becomes severely stuttered and delayed at 10FPS or even less. What is VERY cool in this update is that by separating the controller input from FPS you can now race at 10-15FPS no probs. As cool as extremely high FPS are, you don't really need it for fluid onscreen movement (think about TV and movie FPS), but you previously did need good FPS for adequate car control. This improvement will bring a lot of new found enjoyment to people who aren't running high end PCs - levelling out the playing field to an extent. If I have time I'll post a video in the next day showing races at 10-20FPS.
25th July: More Screenshots
New screenshots of Barcelona, Northamptonshire, Nuerburg, Rhez and Stock cars posted in the screenshots area.
23rd July: Screenshots & WIPs
Screenshots from the preview article are now available in the screenshots area. WIP profiles of tracks and cars in the rFactor update are also now live.
23nd July: FPS Comparisons
Regarding FPS, fwiw using the same config (settings/track/cars) in 1070 vs 1140 I've seen up to 20% better FPS in the update, generally 10-20%, sometimes less than 10% - on low-end PC. YMMV.
22nd July: Track notes
Notes added to Montreal
22nd July: Lienz Rally Hillclimb
I've updated the Lienz Rally Hillclimb video (5.75mb)
22nd Jul: Vehicle Inputs @ +100Hz
The change in vehicle inputs could be one of the highlights of this update for many people, especially those like me on low-mid range PC's that struggle at times with low frame rates. Prior to the update it was very difficult to 'survive' low frame rates when it came to car control. Not so now - A+
Note: Screenshots in this review were made on a clunky old PC at max settings in DX8. |
